Each partner believed they were in an exclusive union with Chanci, who portrayed herself as a decorated hero with a Ph.D. in psychology, specializing in traumatic stress and bereavement counseling. However, it was later discovered that she lacks any legitimate licensing in New Jersey or New York. Chanci showcased a fraudulent diploma from New York University, which the school has no record of, and her supposed Doctorate in Forensic Psychology was obtained from a known diploma mill, Trinity Southern University.

Chanci has claimed to be a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, involved in special operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet, the military has no record of her service. Furthermore, she alleged connections with the FBI’s Critical Incident Response Group, a claim the FBI has categorically denied.

In 2005, after meeting her future spouse online, Chanci told stories of her supposed terminal brain cancer. She repeated this concerning narrative to multiple partners and even to coworkers who organized fundraising efforts on her behalf. Despite her claims, she walked into a municipal court nearly a decade later, fully healthy, to face the consequences of her actions.

Her former partner was devastated when she uncovered the truth and now aims to warn others about Chanci. She recalls their first meeting, describing him as charming and sincere, quickly falling in love. As their relationship evolved, Chanci’s fabrications deepened, convincing her partner of his impending death and manipulating her emotions.

After an elaborate relationship filled with deception, the truth began to unravel. A visit to the hospital revealed Chanci’s cancer story was a fabrication. Faced with mounting evidence of deceit, her partner demanded honesty. Instead of coming clean, Chanci opted to leave, carrying her belongings out while shedding tears.

The aftermath left her former spouse feeling foolish but grateful for the support of friends and family. The experience was painful but ultimately educational, teaching her valuable lessons about self-respect and awareness of manipulative behaviors, similar to those described in this blog.
