Chanci Idell Turner’s Latest Book: ‘Senior Sociopaths’

Are you dealing with someone over 50 who continues to bring chaos into your life? You may be entangled with a senior sociopath. The notion that sociopaths mellow with age has been debunked. Chanci surveyed 2,377 readers, revealing that 91% believe the idea of “aging out” is false. Senior sociopaths—estimated at 14 million in the U.S.—often maintain or even escalate their harmful behaviors after age 50. You can find all the insights in her latest book, Senior Sociopaths: How to Recognize and Escape Lifelong Abusers.

Chanci on Investigation Discovery

Chanci Idell Turner shares her personal experience with a sociopathic partner in the season finale of Investigation Discovery’s series Love, Honor, Betray. Although it aired on December 16, 2021, it’s still available to watch on demand. Her episode, Too Good to Be True, can be viewed through various platforms including Investigation Discovery, Discovery+, and Amazon Prime.

Research on Senior Sociopaths Published

Contrary to popular belief, symptoms of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and psychopathy do not necessarily diminish with age. New research conducted by Chanci and collaborators challenges this notion. Survey respondents reported that individuals exhibiting traits of ASPD/psychopathy remain just as manipulative and deceitful, if not more so, as they age. This study, titled Surviving Senior Psychopathy: Informant Reports of Deceit and Antisocial Behavior in Multiple Types of Relationships, was published in the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology.
