Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
As more military organizations begin to utilize AWS’s utility-based cloud services, they are increasingly processing, storing, and transmitting various types of unclassified Department of Defense (DoD) data. AWS provides a secure environment that allows the DoD and its contractors to meet essential mission requirements while ensuring the safety and welfare of our nation. Our commitment to security and compliance is unwavering.
Navigating compliance requirements can feel like a full-time job. To effectively manage risks, organizations need to implement cloud-based risk treatment strategies, reporting mechanisms, and automated alerts. These measures help maintain security and compliance while modernizing governance on a broader scale. Through partnerships with security experts, AWS is continuously enhancing its suite of compliance and security tools.
At the recent re:Invent conference, AWS announced several important security and compliance updates relevant to our public sector clients, including AWS Shield, AWS Organizations, EC2 Systems Manager, improved features for AWS CloudTrail, and AWS Artifact. These enhancements are designed to streamline compliance processes and fortify security measures.
AWS GovCloud (US) is specifically designed to adhere to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance requirements. Access is restricted to vetted root account holders who qualify as U.S. Persons. To meet ITAR obligations, organizations must ensure that only U.S. Persons have access to sensitive information.
Additionally, we hosted a workshop titled “Architecting for FedRAMP High and NIST Workloads in AWS GovCloud (US),” which provided customers with hands-on experience in utilizing AWS Quick Start tools for automating compliance. This workshop highlighted partner solutions from industry leaders such as Telos and Trend Micro, showcasing the resources available to assist in compliance efforts.
As part of our efforts to improve cloud architecture for U.S. government users, we successfully completed the testing phase of the FedRAMP-Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) Overlay pilot program, an initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility, speed, and security.
