Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
We are excited to announce the addition of three new features to the CloudWatch Monitoring Scripts for Linux. These scripts can be executed in the background to regularly send system metrics to Amazon CloudWatch, where they are retained for a duration of two weeks.
Upon installation, users can select a combination of the following metrics to report:
- Memory Utilization – The percentage of memory allocated by applications and the operating system, excluding caches and buffers.
- Memory Used – The amount of memory allocated by applications and the operating system in megabytes, excluding caches and buffers.
- Memory Available – The amount of system memory available for applications and the operating system, measured in megabytes.
- Disk Space Utilization – The usage of disk space represented as a percentage.
- Disk Space Used – The total disk space used in gigabytes.
- Disk Space Available – The amount of available disk space in gigabytes.
- Swap Space Utilization – The percentage of swap space currently in use.
- Swap Space Used – The amount of swap space used, measured in megabytes.
You have the flexibility to track disk space for one or multiple mount points or directories. Here’s what’s new:
- IAM Role Support – The CloudWatch monitoring scripts now utilize AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles for submitting memory and disk metrics to CloudWatch.
- Auto Scaling – These metrics can now inform scaling decisions alongside EC2’s Auto Scaling feature. For instance, you might opt to scale up when average memory utilization exceeds a specific percentage.
- Aggregate Metrics – The scripts can now report aggregate metrics, enabling you to monitor memory and disk usage across multiple EC2 instances. For example, you could keep track of the total memory utilization across all your instances in a single aggregate metric.
You can download the CloudWatch Monitoring Scripts for Linux, review the documentation, and start utilizing these new features today. For additional insights into severance packages, consider checking out this helpful blog post.
