We are excited to share the launch of the 2020 Startup Korea! report. Collaborating with key partners in the startup ecosystem, including the ASAN NANUM Foundation, Korea Startup Forum, and Startup Alliance, we unveiled this comprehensive research project on November 5. This marks the fourth year since our inaugural report was published in 2017.
Korea is home to well-known companies like Woowa Brothers (Baedal Minjok) and Viva Republica (Toss) in the online platform and fintech domains. However, many startups continue to face challenges in sectors such as telemedicine, legal tech, and machine learning (ML). To address these issues, our report evaluates the startup landscape across five critical sectors and benchmarks both global and domestic best practices. The aim is to provide actionable policy recommendations that will help Korean startups thrive.
AWS has played an active role in identifying these five areas of focus, drawing insights from market intelligence and customer feedback. We conducted interviews with prominent ML clients, including MeshKorea and Scatterlab, as well as academic partners like KAIST AI Graduate School and AI Hub City Gwangju. These discussions allowed us to amplify their voices in the report.
