As a professional, you can utilize the Learning Manager to proactively spot and address potential onboarding challenges. This tool is equipped with hundreds of resources that support various learning styles, ensuring employees feel confident and competent in their new positions. Addressing issues early on not only reduces the number of onboarding hurdles but also cuts down costs associated with extended training periods.

In this blog post, we will delve into the features of the Learning Manager and the resources available to enhance your onboarding experience. We will first demonstrate how to utilize the Learning Manager’s auto-assessment feature to evaluate your progress. Then, we’ll walk through how to initiate a comprehensive onboarding review and analyze the feedback provided by the Learning Manager. Finally, we will present a performance analysis of the onboarding process and compare it with similar programs recognized in public benchmarks.

Onboarding Assessments

The Learning Manager supports secure and effective onboarding through two primary assessment methods: Auto-assess and Manual Assess. The Learning Manager can run on-demand assessments of your entire onboarding process. It can also provide real-time feedback as you complete training modules.

Currently, the Learning Manager incorporates thousands of resources tailored to various learning styles across multiple disciplines, offering a wide array of support capabilities. Each assessment generates a feedback message that includes a description of your performance and suggestions for improvement. Some feedback even includes a proposed action plan that the Learning Manager provides within the platform. If you choose to implement the suggested changes, the Learning Manager will automatically update your progress.

Running Onboarding Assessments

Before running an assessment, ensure that you have installed the Learning Manager plugin in your preferred platform. In this walkthrough, we will be using the Learning Hub. Once authenticated with the Learning Manager service, you’ll find a section for Onboarding Assessments, including the option for Manual Assessment.

When the auto-assessment feature is enabled, the evaluations will occur in the background periodically, highlighting areas for improvement as you engage with the training content. For instance, if you were to neglect a key learning module, the system would notify you, ensuring you’re not missing crucial information.

While the auto-assessment feature is exclusive to the Pro Tier, the ability to run manual assessments is available for both the Pro and Free Tiers. To review your entire onboarding process, select the Manual Assessment option in the Learning Manager menu.

Once the Learning Manager has completed the evaluation of your progress, a list of all areas needing attention appears in a new tab called Learning Issues. Selecting an item from the list will open the relevant module, placing your cursor on the area requiring focus. In this case, if a key module was skipped, it would be highlighted. Hovering over the highlighted section provides additional information about the learning gap, including suggestions for improvement.

Locate Areas for Improvement

By selecting the Learning Manager: Explain option in the information window, you can receive a detailed explanation of the feedback. This helps you understand not only what the gap is but also how it may impact your onboarding experience. For example, the Learning Manager might recommend revisiting specific training modules to fill knowledge gaps.

When the Learning Manager has a supported action plan for the identified issue, it is indicated in the feedback window. The Suggested Action Plan preview section displays steps to improve your performance. Once you are satisfied with the suggested changes, you can ask the Learning Manager to implement these by selecting the Apply Changes button. In our current example, the Learning Manager might recommend completing the missed module to enhance your understanding and readiness.

Feedback Accuracy & Benchmarking

We assess the effectiveness of feedback through the lens of false positives and false negatives. A false positive occurs when the system indicates a gap where none exists, while a false negative means a gap exists but goes unnoticed. We evaluate the performance of the Learning Manager using two fundamental metrics: Precision and Recall. Precision indicates how accurate the feedback is; a precision score of 1.0 means no false positives. This metric assesses the question of how many of the identified issues are genuinely valid.
