Every day, we express our deep appreciation for the courageous individuals who serve our nation in the military. Our commitment to engaging with the military community is unwavering, exemplified through our hiring initiatives, partnerships to enhance the skills of transitioning service members, and community outreach efforts.

We have been privileged to collaborate with veterans and the military community in various impactful ways, including:

Cyber Warriors Virginia

This initiative aims to provide veterans with essential cyber security training opportunities and resources to help them enter the Virginia cyber security workforce. Amazon is partnering with the Commonwealth of Virginia and other private sector contributors to offer our existing web-based training program in security fundamentals to transitioning service members and recent veterans with foundational IT skills seeking a career in cyber security. Joining Forces

Amazon has pledged to provide 10,000 service members, transitioning veterans, and military spouses with over $7 million in Amazon Web Services (AWS) training. Additionally, we are dedicated to training 25 wounded warriors at AWS Boot Camps for roles in cloud computing and hiring 25,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years. AWS Educate for Veterans

As part of our Joining Forces commitment, we have pledged to train 10,000 veterans and military family members in cloud computing via AWS Educate. U.S.-based veterans and their families can create an AWS Educate account, granting them access to resources that can accelerate their cloud-related learning and support their civilian career success. Get started today by visiting: AWS Educate for Veterans.

AWS Military Fellowship

We established the AWS Military Fellowship exchange program as part of a broader initiative across the Department of Defense (DoD), aimed at introducing active duty military personnel to AWS technology and Amazon’s leadership principles. This program cultivates a unique group of officers who not only grasp the profession of arms but also understand the strategic challenges facing the DoD and the organizational opportunities presented by revolutionary advancements in technology. Read about our fellows, including Captain (Promote-able) Alan Richards (AR), U.S. Marine Corps Officer, Jessica Lee (JL), U.S. Navy Communications Officer, and Sergeant Major David Moore (DM), U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer.

AWS Certification Exam Reimbursement for Veterans

U.S. service members transitioning from active duty often encounter significant challenges, including job placement and career shifts. To assist veterans in their success, we have collaborated with the Department of Veterans Affairs to make AWS Certification exams eligible for VA reimbursement. If you are a U.S. veteran, find out more about AWS Certifications and how you can be reimbursed for AWS Certification exams on Jeff Barr’s original blog post.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

The cloud empowers the VA to create a more tailored environment for veterans while adhering to security mandates. “Technology has enabled us to innovate and reimagine possibilities like never before,” said Sarah Johnson, Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer, Department of Veterans Affairs. “As we consider new solutions, we must focus on how veterans can access the data and information they need to receive optimal healthcare.” Watch the video of Sarah Johnson at the recent AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, DC, where she discusses her role as a change agent within the VA, transforming the agency from vision to execution.
