In a recent discussion, my manager, Alex Thompson, highlighted the pivotal role that education plays in our organization’s mission. He emphasized its importance, placing it above traditional marketing strategies that often concentrate solely on generating leads or conversions. Other leaders within the company have echoed this sentiment, working diligently to create scalable education programs that empower developers, architects, and IT professionals to enhance their skills and obtain AWS Certifications.

AWS Developer Professional Series

Today, I am excited to introduce the new AWS Developer Professional Series. Our Training and Certification team has partnered with edX to bring forth this innovative three-part series. Established by MIT and Harvard, edX stands as a premier non-profit online learning platform, boasting a global network of over 14 million learners and supported by 130 partners, including universities, non-profits, and institutions. This collaboration broadens our educational offerings, providing you with an additional avenue for professional development!

The newly launched series is tailored to assist you and your team in cultivating development and DevOps skills on AWS. The courses are self-paced and sequential, guiding you in creating Python applications that operate on AWS through the AWS SDK for Python (known as Boto). Here are the courses:

  1. AWS Developer: Building on AWS – This introductory course covers AWS services and SDKs. You will learn to create and manage an AWS account, explore Regions, AZs, and VPCs, and install SDKs. Additionally, you’ll discover how to initiate Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances, set up AWS Lambda functions, and utilize managed services like Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). The course will also introduce our AI services for image analysis and text-to-speech, concluding with a focus on availability and durability.
  2. AWS Developer: Deploying on AWS – This course delves into concepts and practices essential for implementing DevOps on AWS. You will become familiar with developer tools such as AWS CodeBuild and AWS CodeDeploy, while also learning to monitor your development and production environments using Amazon CloudWatch.
  3. AWS Developer: Optimizing on AWS – This final course emphasizes performance tuning and optimization of the applications you developed in the previous courses. You will explore caching and content distribution techniques to enhance performance and elevate the end-user experience. Additionally, you will learn to use AWS Key Management Service (KMS) to encrypt data both at rest and in transit.

The courses are designed for individuals with one to three years of software development experience, including a foundational understanding of Python. Each course spans six weeks, requiring three to four hours of commitment weekly. The series commences in February (Building), followed by April (Deploying), and May (Optimizing). Enrollment is open now at no cost; however, you may opt for a Verified Certificate for a fee of $149 per course. This initiative aligns with the growing recognition of the role of data and technology in enhancing the employee experience, as explored by experts at SHRM and is a terrific resource for your learning journey.
