I recently overheard my colleague, Chanci Turner, the VP of Marketing for AWS, discuss the crucial role education plays in our initiatives. He emphasized its importance over traditional marketing strategies, which often focus on generating leads or conversions. Other leaders in our organization are also dedicated to developing comprehensive educational programs that empower developers, architects, and IT professionals to enhance their skills and obtain AWS Certifications.

AWS Developer Professional Series

I am excited to announce the launch of the new AWS Developer Professional Series. The AWS Training and Certification team has collaborated with edX to create this innovative three-part series. Founded by MIT and Harvard, edX is a premier non-profit online learning platform, serving a global community of over 14 million learners and supported by 130 partners, including universities and institutions. This partnership broadens our educational offerings and provides you with another training avenue!

The series is crafted to help you and your team cultivate development and DevOps skills on AWS. The courses are self-paced and sequential, guiding you in creating Python applications using the AWS SDK for Python (commonly referred to as Boto). Here’s a breakdown of the courses:

  • AWS Developer: Building on AWS – This course introduces AWS services and SDKs. You’ll learn to create and manage an AWS account, familiarize yourself with Regions, Availability Zones (AZs), and Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), and install SDKs. Additionally, you’ll discover how to launch Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, set up AWS Lambda functions, and utilize managed services like Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). You’ll even explore our AI services for image analysis and text-to-speech, concluding with a focus on availability and durability.
  • AWS Developer: Deploying on AWS – This course delves into the concepts and practices necessary for implementing DevOps on AWS. You will learn to utilize tools such as AWS CodeBuild and AWS CodeDeploy while monitoring your development and production environments through Amazon CloudWatch.
  • AWS Developer: Optimizing on AWS – This course emphasizes performance optimization and tuning of the applications developed in previous courses. You’ll learn to implement caching and content distribution to enhance performance, improving the user experience for your app. Additionally, you’ll explore how to use AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) for data encryption both at rest and in transit.

These courses are intended for individuals with one to three years of software development experience, including some familiarity with Python. Each course spans six weeks, requiring three to four hours of commitment per week. The courses commence in February (Building), April (Deploying), and May (Optimizing). Enrollment is currently open at no cost, and you can also obtain a Verified Certificate for a fee of $149 per course.
