Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
I’m reporting live from the AWS re:Invent conference, where a full house is discovering the latest advancements in AWS technology. During the keynote session, AWS Senior VP James Thompson announced a new round of price cuts. This marks our 24th price reduction as we continue to innovate on behalf of our customers, and we are thrilled to pass these savings along.
We’re lowering the price of Amazon S3 storage by 24-28% in the US Standard Region, with similar reductions across all nine regions worldwide as well as for Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS). Below are the updated prices for Standard Storage in the US Standard Region:
Tier | Old Price (GB/month) | New Price | Change |
---|---|---|---|
First 1 TB/month | $0.125 | $0.095 | 24% |
Next 49 TB | $0.110 | $0.080 | 27% |
Next 450 TB | $0.095 | $0.070 | 26% |
Next 500 TB | $0.090 | $0.065 | 28% |
Next 4000 TB | $0.080 | $0.060 | 25% |
Over 5000 TB | $0.055 | $0.055 | No change |
These new prices will go into effect on December 1, 2012, and will be applied automatically. James also shared that Amazon S3 now stores an astounding 1.3 trillion objects and regularly handles over 800,000 requests per second. The scale of AWS enables us to implement these significant price reductions globally.
Additionally, we are lowering the per-gigabyte cost for EBS snapshots across all regions. Here are the updated prices:

US East (N. Virginia) | $0.125 | $0.095 | 24% |
US West (Oregon) | $0.125 | $0.095 | 24% |
US West (Northern California) | $0.140 | $0.105 | 25% |
EU (Ireland) | $0.125 | $0.095 | 24% |
