The foundation of a successful tech startup lies in its people, products, culture, and robust infrastructure. The sooner these elements are established, the faster a company can grow and assert its position in the market. While some of these aspects are innate, the choice of strategic partners plays a crucial role in this journey.

U.K.-based startup AMPLYFI adopted a meticulous approach to ensure it had the right team and offerings, a strategy it also applied when selecting a long-term infrastructure partner. This became particularly relevant in early 2020, following AMPLYFI’s acquisition of U.S.-based Deep Web Technologies (DWT), a frontrunner in federated search and data connectors. Despite DWT’s existing relationship with DigitalOcean, AMPLYFI recognized the need to consolidate its operations and scale effectively by migrating to a single provider.

As a company focused on developing globally deployed SaaS solutions, AMPLYFI recognized the necessity of partnering with a leading cloud service provider. However, the team also prioritized finding a partner that shared its vision and values, one that understood its current stage and was willing to collaborate for mutual growth. According to Co-founder and CEO Chris Ganje, while AMPLYFI’s technical demands were significant—ranging from advanced AI model training to comprehensive API development—the expectations for professionalism and ambition in a strategic ally were even higher.

“We’re developing top-tier business intelligence products, so any partner we engage with must meet exceptionally high standards,” Ganje stated. “To support our ambitions and complex technical needs, we rigorously evaluated cloud providers including AWS, IBM, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and DigitalOcean.”

Founded in 2015, AMPLYFI specializes in AI-driven platforms that analyze extensive data from the internet and internal databases to deliver actionable insights. Its solutions are utilized by major organizations to enhance business intelligence and market research capabilities, identify potential disruptions, manage portfolio risks, and strengthen customer relationships.

Employing various AI techniques, such as machine learning and natural language processing, AMPLYFI locates and interprets unstructured data, transforming it into structured datasets that augment traditional data sources. When assessing infrastructure providers, Ganje’s team evaluated each for service quality, cost, and their willingness to engage in collaborative development and sales opportunities. They even utilized their own products to generate insights into each provider’s global influence, sentiment, and sustainability credentials. “AWS was the standout choice across all criteria,” Ganje remarked.

“AWS has significantly supported us by offering services such as Amazon SageMaker, AWS Lambda, and Step Functions, which have been crucial for developing our complex data processing pipelines at a fraction of the cost compared to traditional setups. Additionally, fully managed services like Amazon DynamoDB and Elasticsearch have simplified our data storage and utilization, allowing us to focus on our core competencies and deliver more value to our clients,” he added.

Ganje also highlighted the invaluable assistance from the AWS Startups team during DWT’s post-acquisition migration. Given the constraints faced by startup founders, having a dedicated support team that understands their challenges is essential.

The AWS Startup Team has worked closely with AMPLYFI to ensure a successful integration of its technologies into a unified framework. This collaborative experience will be showcased in a forthcoming webinar series starting on July 28th, where members of the AWS Startup community will share their journeys here.

“What truly impressed us about AWS was their genuine passion for AMPLYFI and their understanding of our evolving needs. Other providers may have offered short-term benefits, but AWS emerged as the best choice for providing the long-term infrastructure stability we required. Our independent assessment reinforced this decision, making it one of the easiest we’ve ever made.”

With over $10 million in funding and a clear vision for the future, AMPLYFI is poised to continue innovating and disrupting the business intelligence sector. “From the services provided to the migration support, partnering with AWS has been nothing short of world-class,” Ganje concluded.
