I’m pleased to share the release of my latest book, War & Peace & IT: Business Leadership, Technology, and Success in the Digital Age. This book serves as a crucial guide for senior enterprise leaders looking to navigate the complexities of digital transformation alongside their technology teams. It addresses a gap highlighted by CIOs from my previous work, A Seat at the Table, who expressed a desire for a resource tailored for their CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, and other business leaders.

Examining Business-IT Relationships

War & Peace & IT critically examines traditional interactions between enterprises and their IT departments, shedding light on why these outdated methods will hinder success in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Drawing from extensive dialogues with AWS customers and my own experience as both a CIO and CEO, I tackle pressing issues such as fostering innovation, budgeting for IT costs, managing risk, and understanding the implications of cloud computing and machine learning.

A Touch of Levity

Amidst the seriousness of these topics, I’ve injected a touch of levity into the narrative. The storyline revolves around transforming business-IT relationships and includes intriguing references to historical figures like Napoleon, bobblehead dolls, and Hindu gods. I hope you find these elements both engaging and thought-provoking. The book is rooted in our commitment to customer obsession, aiming to address the tough questions our customers face as they encounter obstacles on their digital journeys.

Previous Works and Future Projects

For those interested in my earlier works, A Seat at the Table delves into the evolving role of IT leadership in our agile, lean, and cloud-driven age. My first book, The Art of Business Value, explores misconceptions surrounding “business value” that have led to misguided decisions in overseeing IT initiatives, offering improved perspectives on this critical concept. As for my next project, I’m contemplating a focus on overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to facilitate smoother digital transformations. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this direction.
