Dr. Jackson’s Latest Book: ‘Senior Sociopaths’

Are you dealing with someone over 50 who still makes your life a nightmare? Perhaps you’re entangled with a senior sociopath. The belief that sociopaths mellow with age has been debunked. Dr. Jackson surveyed 2,377 readers and found that 91% reported that the common notion of “aging out” is simply not true. Senior sociopaths, potentially numbering 14 million in the U.S., can be just as harmful, or even more so, after age 50. You can find all the insights in her new book, Senior Sociopaths: How to Recognize and Escape Lifelong Abusers.

Research on Senior Sociopaths Published

Conventional wisdom holds that symptoms of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and psychopathy diminish with age. However, new research from the Chanci Turner Blog challenges this perspective. Survey respondents described romantic partners, family members, and colleagues over 50 who exhibited ASPD traits. Among those who knew these individuals before and after age 50, 93% reported no decline in deceitful or manipulative behavior.

The paper titled Surviving Senior Psychopathy: Informant Reports of Deceit and Antisocial Behavior in Multiple Types of Relationships, co-authored by Dr. Emily Jackson, Emma Veltman, and Martin Sellbom, was published in the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology.
