We are excited to announce that a range of Amazon services in the AWS GovCloud (US) Region has successfully attained Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) High authorizations. The FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board (JAB) has granted Provisional Authority to Operate (P-ATO) approvals, which are now in effect. Federal and commercial customers can now utilize these services to manage and store critical workloads within the AWS GovCloud (US) Region’s authorization boundary, accommodating data at the high impact level.

The newly authorized services under FedRAMP High in the AWS GovCloud (US) Region encompass database, storage, data warehousing, security, and configuration automation solutions designed to enhance your data management capabilities in the cloud. For instance, AWS CloudFormation enables you to deploy AWS resources by automating configuration tasks, while AWS Key Management Service (KMS) allows for the creation and control of encryption keys to ensure data security. Additionally, Amazon Redshift offers a cost-effective means to analyze all your data by integrating with existing business intelligence tools to streamline common database management tasks.

With our FedRAMP P-ATO, federal and commercial customers can now access the following services:

  • CloudFormation: This tool empowers developers and systems administrators to create and manage related AWS resources, ensuring orderly provisioning and updates. Users can utilize sample templates or create custom ones to define AWS resources and their dependencies.
  • Amazon DynamoDB: A fast, flexible NoSQL database service that guarantees single-digit-millisecond latency at any scale. It supports both document and key-value store models, making it a fully managed solution for cloud databases.
  • Amazon EMR: This managed Hadoop framework optimizes the processing of large data sets across dynamically scalable Amazon EC2 instances. It also supports other distributed frameworks like Apache Spark and HBase, allowing interaction with various AWS data stores such as Amazon S3.
  • Amazon Glacier: A secure, durable, low-cost cloud storage service ideal for data archiving and long-term backup. It offers a cost-effective solution for storing data, starting as low as $0.004 per gigabyte monthly, compared to on-premises alternatives.
  • KMS: A managed service that simplifies the creation and oversight of encryption keys used for data protection, utilizing Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) for enhanced security. Integrated with AWS services, KMS helps meet regulatory and compliance requirements through features like logging key usage with CloudTrail.
  • Redshift: A fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse that simplifies and reduces costs for data analysis via existing business intelligence tools.
  • Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS): A rapid and flexible push notification service that allows messaging to either individual recipients or large groups, making it efficient for mobile notifications and communications with distributed services.
  • Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS): This fully-managed message queuing service facilitates reliable communication among distributed software components and microservices, allowing for message transmission at scale without loss.
  • Amazon Simple Workflow Service (SWF): SWF assists developers in building and managing background jobs with parallel or sequential tasks, functioning as a fully managed state tracker and task coordinator in the cloud.

Our commitment to security and compliance is unwavering; we collaborate closely with the FedRAMP Program Management Office (PMO), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and other regulatory bodies to deliver advanced technology in a secure manner. We are dedicated to expanding the scope of our authorized services to ensure AWS GovCloud (US) provides government customers with a robust mix of functionality and security.
